- Select the coffee and brewing equipment that you would like to purchase.
- Add those items to the shopping cart by pressing the button that says: “Add to Bag”. Starbucks calls their shopping cart their “Bag”:
- Once you have all the items you need in the “Bag”, click on the “Checkout Now” button in the top right of the screen.
- When you’re in shopping cart you will see all the items you’re about to purchase on the left hand side. Underneath those items is the promo code entry field:
- Enter the coupon code and click “Apply”.
- That’s it! Now complete the purchase as you would normally.
A Brief History of Starbucks:
Most people know the general details of where Starbucks came from: founded in 1971; started out a coffee roaster and didn’t actually brew any coffee.
Howard Schulz’s name is synonymous with Starbucks. He has been CEO for the better part of 30 years, and has become one of the most publicly recognizable CEO’s in America. But did you know that he wasn’t one of the founders?
Starbucks was founded by three partners who were friends from the University of San Francisco. They had learned of new coffee roasting techniques from Alfred Peet (of Peet’s Coffee and Tea!). Howard Schulz wasn’t one of the members, but was a former employee of theirs. He had his own chain of coffee outlets called Il Giornale. The original founders sold the Starbucks company to Howard in 1987. Howard then rebranded his coffee outlets into Starbucks stores and then started expanding Starbucks all along the west coast: up to Canada and down to California.
The company actually lost money throughout most of the 1980’s. When Howard Schulz took over, the company quickly became a huge money maker. By 1992 (when Starbucks had their Initial Public Offering), annual revenues had grown to over $73 million.
